BMW Recruited to Transport Athletes at the Olympic Games

We'll admit it. We here at Markel BMW are quite excited for the 2012 Olympics in London. And why wouldn't we be? It's not every day, or even every year for that matter, that we get to see some of the best athletes in the world contend for the gold. Another reason we're excited? BMW is currently set to be front and center, as the premier transport for the Olympic athletes.

Specifically, the luxury automaker is planning to supply a total of 4,000 vehicles. The London Organizing Committee didn't come to this decision lightly either. They considered a wide range of automakers. But in the end, they knew that there's no better choice for transporting top-tier athletes more safely.

Another reason why the London Organizing Committee chose to go with BMW for the event is due to the fact all 4,000 vehicles provided will meet London's strict greenhouse gas limits. What's more, 200 of the vehicles will actually be all-electric. So not only is BMW meeting expectations, they're exceeding them too!

Of course, it goes without saying that these added vehicles need to get from point A to point B with ease. They will, after all, be on quite a tight schedule. It therefore makes sense then that the London Organizing Committee would opt to close down 30 miles of lanes for the VIP fleet, right? Well, that's exactly what they're doing.

Not attending the Olympic games? Don't worry, we'd love to see the BMW VIP fleet to. But in the end, we know it's simply more fun to take that new BMW that you've been eyeing for a test drive.
