BMW Enters Into Agreement with GM

If there's one thing that we here at Markel BMW can say, it's that our favorite Bavarian automaker is always looking to forge new partnerships for a wide range of reasons. Previously, BMW has teamed with certain Japanese and South Korean automakers in an effort to bolster their technology in various forms, and now they're planning to team with General Motors in the development of fuel cell tech for its cars' future use.

Well more specifically, BMW isn't really investing in the technology's development. Rather, they're more footing the bill for the research that has already been done. Nonetheless, this is a wise move for BMW to make, as more automakers are investing in alternative fuel and electric platforms each day. At the moment, neither company has announced fiscal details of the agreement yet, but what we're wondering is what kind of future endeavors could this deal lead to?

Just think about the progress that BMW has already made in seeking the help of its fellow automakers... Now think about how easy it was for BMW to actually reach these agreements with its competitors. See what we're getting at? This could be a huge chance for BMW to adopt new technologies from top automakers, rather than having to fully invest money, as well as time and resources, into R&D. This would leave BMW with more time simply do what it does best: Design and build the highest quality cars on the road today.

Of course, we'd love to know what you think too. Is this strategy of forming alliances and adopting the competition's tech a smart move for BMW? Or do you trust and only trust the Bavarian automaker's engineering? We'd love to know what you think, so let us know by leaving a comment!

Personally, we think that the new BMW vehicles that we carry here at 716 N. 102nd Street Omaha, NE 68114 more than speak for themselves, as do the lineup of used BMW models that we carry too. Whatever sort of technology models like the BMW 328i xDrive, 650i, and 535i xDrive  carry under the hood, they'll always be BMW models at heart.
